Erin Michelle McNeill graduated from Montserrat College of Art in 2010 and currently lives on the North shore of Boston. She began focusing on the human form in a series was first conceived in the winter between 2012 and 2013 in what began as an emotional release and performative rebuttal to vivid instances of objectification, combined with visceral and sexual response to the realities of both physical and emotional violence, submission, dominance, retaliation and self-realization.

Contemplating the (antiquated) concept of woman as an impulsive, irrational, or feral being/object (to be controlled) brought about the wildlife imagery in the work, specifically through use of predators and prey. The self-realization of woman-in-actuality as an increasingly reactive and assertive being (perhaps in the hopes of achieving dominance, whether over another, of over oneself, or for a reciprocity of equality in physical and emotional power) gradually came forth as the series progressed.

She explores interaction with the both projections and the voyeur, emotionally and evocatively. Recently, the physical interaction has evolved from the emotional/impulsive and is often a delicate interaction with light and dark, used as a tool to frame or dissect the body. Often the face lands strategically in shadow... sometimes nonetheless choosing to look away from being looked at. Alternately, some images are that of unavoidable eye contact. In the bright light of the projector, there may be a deer in headlights, or the opposite.
